In the upcoming Double Gameweek 25 (DGW25) in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Liverpool and Aston Villa will both play twice. These teams, along with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, will then have a blank in Gameweek 29, as Liverpool face Newcastle in the EFL Cup final on Sunday, March 16th.
The FPL Experts’ Chip Strategy
Gianni Buttice (@GianniButtice)
I’m backing Unai Emery (£1.1m) with the Assistant Manager chip in DGW25 and will then likely transfer him out for an Assistant Manager who can benefit from table bonus in Gameweek 26. I’m now likely to Free-Hit in Gameweek 29, potentially going big on both Manchester clubs given their good fixtures, with Man City at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and Man Utd visiting Leicester City. This then allows me to keep my Newcastle and Liverpool assets.
I’m unsure on when I will Wildcard, but it will likely be before I Bench-Boost in a big Double Gameweek. I have already used my Triple Captain chip.

I decided against playing the Assistant Manager chip in Double Gameweek 24 (DGW24), simply because I already had three Liverpool assets and no money in the bank.
I usually like to play the Wildcard and Bench Boost chips around the Double Gameweeks to maximize their effectiveness. We now know that Liverpool and Spurs are unlikely to double again this season, and their fixture in Gameweek 34 will be played as scheduled, as both teams are out of the FA Cup. “Dead-ending” my team for Blank Gameweek 29 – having players I only want to own in the short term, and then Wildcarding afterwards – will allow me to reinvest in Liverpool after the blank.
I am likely to play the Assistant Manager chip across either Gameweeks 31-33 or 36-38, Free-Hit in Gameweek 34, and Bench Boost in Gameweek 33 or 36, depending on when the Assistant Manager chip is active.
Sam Bonfield (@FPLFamily)
I already have my Assistant Manager chip active for DGW25, having played it for DGW24. I will be moving the chip from David Moyes (£0.5m) to Emery to target Villa’s Double Gameweek and the table bonus in the fixture at home to Liverpool.
I plan to Wildcard in Gameweek 30, having dead-ended my team for the blank in Gameweek 29, depending on how many players I have without a fixture in Gameweek 29 due to the EFL Cup final taking place on the same weekend.
I’ll then Bench-Boost in either Gameweek 33 or 36, and will likely Free-Hit in Gameweek 34.
Utkarsh Dalmia (@ZopharFPL)
I activated my Assistant Manager chip on Arne Slot (£1.5m) in DGW24, as I only had two Liverpool players, so that was an easy decision. I will obviously be sticking with Slot in DGW25, but I might move it to Mikel Arteta (£1.5m) in Gameweek 26 for Arsenal’s home fixture against West Ham.
I still have my Triple Captain, Bench Boost, and Free Hit chips to play. I currently only have four players that will be without a fixture in Blank Gameweek 29, so I plan to save the Free Hit for the next blank in Gameweek 34.
This means I will likely Bench-Boost and use the Triple Captain chip in either Gameweek 33 or 36, depending on how the fixtures fall.
Harry Daniels (@FPL_Harry)
I was one of the few Fantasy managers who did not play the Assistant Manager chip in DGW24, but instead activated the Triple Captain chip, so my strategy will take a different path.
I already have triple Liverpool, so if I was to play the Assistant Manager chip this week, it would be on Emery for Villa’s DGW25. However, although the table-bonus potential versus Liverpool does look appealing, I would prefer to use it against teams like Man City, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, or Bournemouth, rather than trying to target a defeat for the league leaders.
So I currently plan on saving my chips before looking to Wildcard in Gameweek 31, Bench-Boost in Gameweek 33, Free-Hit in Gameweek 34, and deploy the Assistant Manager chip over Gameweeks 36-38.
Remember, always do your own research and consider your current team and strategy when planning your chip usage. Good luck with the rest of the FPL season!
